Taos Freeride Championships- Now a FWQS!

That's right. The humbly sick event that has launched the careers of many (see: Lynsey Dyer; Elyse Saugstad) is now a Freeride World Qualifying Tour Stop. The Salomon Taos Freeride Championships, March 4-7, will now score points towards getting on the Freeride World Tour ranking system. 1st at Taos = 6th place on the FWT. So collect a couple wins and you'll be joining the elite ranks of the FWT and get a shot at winning $10k at every stop of the FWT. Check it!

Ski Porn

Just to put this up on the front page for your viewing pleasure. It's an oldie, but I think it's still a little bit of a goodie. Cheers

How to Spit Fire

How to Spit Fire
Take one part 190 proof liquor. One part flaming apparatus. Add to liquor to mouth and subsequently spit liquor at flaming apparatus to create a human propelled flame thrower.

This is the recipe to spit fire. It works exceptionally well, except when the human you add to the recipe is me, because I suck at spitting fire.

Check here for proof.

Election '08

Rarely do skiing and politics ever mix or interfere with each other. Therefore The Ski Life will rarely if ever mention anything about politics. But right now, I'm going to forgo my pledge to exclaim my excitement for yesterday's historical decision. I do have to say this will make it easier to travel and tell people that I'm from America. After '04 it was getting a little bad with all the dirty looks I was getting while abroad. I believe the world's faith in 'merica has been resolved a little. Here's to the next 4 years.

Ski Movie Season

Holy Moley. Aren't ski movies the shit. I've been watching ski movies nearly religiously since I was a toe-headed little grom. Every year, I pop'em in and proceed to get so amped that nearly nothing gets done for a week after the initial viewing. All I can do is think about snow, think about the season, reminisce of seasons past and imagine myself on top of a peak ready to throw-down Seth Morrison style (yeah, I know it's all in my imagination) (Seriously, no one has even stepped-up to what that guy was doing 7 years ago. Sheesh.)

Anyways, so this season I've unfortunately only watched a handful of flicks. More are to come, though here is what I thought of what I've seen so far.

MSP's 'Claim'- Holy Moley this flick is good. Probably there best to date and the first ski flick I've seen in a long time that doesn't have any sections that slow down or drag down the movie. It's a fresh take on the old porn format. So sick. Highlights include Abma's creatively edited and amazingly skied seggy. Heimer's huge huge huge stomp. PK Hunder's flawless trickery and last but not least the titties deep pow seg in BC. A.

Rage Film's 'Down Days'. This flick is a really cool introspective look into what goes into a three week AK heli-shoot. The ups and downs and everywhere in between are chronicled and put together in a very nice documentary style way. B+

Rage Film's 'Such is Life'. A bit too much park jibbery for my liking and a little too many riders kind of blur out the pic. The jib stickers are liking it up on Newschoolers though, so there opinion of jibberish is much more valued than mine. B- from me.

Osteness' '44 Days'. A insanely creatively edited short flick available for free download. Highlights include Jossi Well's park slaughtering and Tim Durtchi's super creative jibbery. The cost being $0.00 is an added bonus. B+

Anyways, more reviews to come (really looking forward to TGR's Under the Influence and Travis Rice's That's it That's All) and in the mean time, check out skimoviemusic.com to get all the soundtracks to all your favorite shred flicks so you can really imagine your Seth while listening to Dramamine on you iPod.
